The Clayton House historic museum will celebrate with an Old West flair at its fourth annual “Sippin’ On 6th Street: Judge Clayton’s Southern Soiree” fundraiser Friday, June 30. The Fort Smith Heritage Foundation hopes to greet 150 guests to the restored Victorian mansion. The indoor-outdoor party features a live auction of sporting guns and vacations, a bourbon tasting, and a barbecue feast.
The $50-ticket event from 6 – 10 p.m. raises preservation funds for the circa 1882 historic house museum that was the home of William H. H. Clayton. The U.S. Attorney of Judge Isaac C. Parker’s famed frontier federal court prosecuted more than 10,000 cases beginning in 1874. The Clayton family lived in the home at 514 North 6th Street from 1882 to 1897.
A dinner featuring a variety of smoked meats and all the fixings from 21 West End will be served. Guests can sample the latest popular bourbons provided by Glidewell Distributing. Beer, wine, a special “Prosecutor’s Punch,” and non-alcoholic beverages will also be served.
The Road Lizards, a jazz quintet, will provide lively music on the grounds. Premium cigars and pipe tobacco will be available from Winston’s Pipe & Cigar Emporium. A new feature of the party will be a mechanical bull ride.
Nine rifles and handguns from brands including Smith & Wesson, Ruger, and Remington are included in the live auction. Also auctioned will be four trips: A wingshooting trip in Cordoba, Argentina, which is known as an exceptional dove-hunting destination; a Kentucky Bourbon private distillery tour; a freshwater fly-fishing excursion in Canada; and a week in Tuscany. Bidders can also vie for a catered mountain bike group ride by Phat Tire Bike Shop.
Funds are also raised by a raffle ticket sale for the chance to win one of two Ruger handguns and a Henry Lever Action rifle. The drawing is held the evening of the party, but winners do not have to be present. Raffle tickets are $5, or six tickets for $25.
One lucky event attendee will win a Henry Lever Action .22 rifle door prize.
