Bruce Holland Announces For Re-election To State Senate
On Saturday January 18, 2014 Senator Bruce Holland officially kicked-off his bid to be re-elected to the Arkansas State Senate. Speaking to a crowd of over 150 gathered to show their support, Senator Holland told the crowd that he was "proud that I have never voted for a tax increase" and had "always voted to reduce taxes, which is something none of my opponents past or present can say for themselves." During the last legislative session taxes were cut for military members, farmers and ranchers, businesses as well as individuals and Senator Holland voted to cut every time. Continuing, Senator Holland emphasized his perfect Pro-Life and Pro-Gun voting record and further stated that marriage should be between a man and a woman. When asked about the so called "Private Option" Senator Holland stated: "I wish that congress would repeal Obamacare but there simply are not enough votes in the US Senate to do that therefore I have voted for and will vote again for the Private Option in the upcoming Fiscal Session. I believe it is the most conservative way for our state to deal with Obamacare."
Senator Holland is Assistant Pro Tempore and is Chairman of the Agriculture, Forestry and Economic Development Committee. He also serves on the Education Committee, the Energy Committee, Joint Budget Committee, Rules Committee, Joint Audit Committee and has been appointed to serve as a Chairman for an interim legislative task force on Intermodal Transportation.
Senator Holland says, "Being a Senator is not just voting for or against legislation during session, it’s about serving the people of the district, being involved in community activities and being available to help with problems from individuals as well as problems within the communities." In addition to serving in the State Senate, Senator Holland represents 14 states from California to Alabama on the governance council of the Land O’Lakes Corporation, serves as a director for the Farmers Coop in Van Buren, serves on the Sebastian County Farm Bureau Board, is past Chairman of the Farm Service Agency three county committee for Crawford, Scott and Sebastian counties, and has memberships that include: Cattlemen’s Association, Sebastian County Fair Association, Sebastian County Historical Society, National Wild Turkey Federation, NRA, and the Carter Mountain Deer Slayers. Senator Holland’s roots go back 6 generations in Crawford and Sebastian counties. He was raised on a cattle farm in south Sebastian county, worked 14 years at Macsteel in Ft. Smith before retiring to become a full time cattleman. He went to school in Greenwood and college at the U of A at Fayetteville and majored in Chemical Engineering. Senator Holland is a member of the United Methodist Church and enjoys singing classic country music to entertain for charitable causes and community events.
