Marion Eugene Sharp, a former resident of the Walsenburg area in south central Colorado, passed away at the Grand River Hospital in Rifle, Colorado on December 2nd, 2013 at 85 years of age. Marion was born in Branch, Arkansas on November 25th 1928, the youngest of 3 children born to Lorie and Ira Sharp.
While serving in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956, Marion met and married Ethel Burnette McFate. Together they made their home in Denver, Colorado and raised 3 children, Tammy, Mark and Debra and were in turn blessed with 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. After Marion and Ethel divorced, he relocated to the Saint Mary’s Glacier area above Idaho Springs, Colorado for a number of years before becoming a Walsenburg resident in the mid 1990’s.
Marion loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman and managed a ski rental shop. He was also an avid musician and loved nothing better than an old fashioned Bluegrass "jam session."
Marion was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Kenneth Sharp, sister Wilda Rainwater and former wife Ethel Burnette Sharp.
He is survived by his 3 children: Tammy Sharp and Debra Lucero, both located in the Denver area, Mark and Colleen Sharp located in Eagle, Co. and his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
An outside memorial service will be held in the spring as soon as weather permits, because that is the way he would have wanted it. Internment of ashes will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
