“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36.) Thank you for supporting your local paper which has graciously printed my column for almost two years. It is now time for me to wrap up so suffer me this week and next. I have never been under the illusion of being a grand poo- pa but am gratified in the Lord for the assemblage of thoughts provided me. “How Great Thou Art, How Great Thou Art.” I hope in some way to have aided or inspired the busy believer or curious unbeliever. I’m sure some have stood in disagreement with this or that but I endeavored always to write fairly and truthfully, some things speculative and questioning. I was moved to evangelize, encourage and inform; to edify; to ruffle the edges of things mysterious and to herald gospel to some who might be floundering. Love and respect goes out to all and to all persuasions, deservedly so. Where truth has garnered offense, I am okay. If I have been unkind, I will suffer loss.

Of first encouragement is daily Bible reading and prayer –time with the Lord. No gimmick here; if you are unlearned in the Bible or disenfranchised with the church for one reason or the other, or simply unchurched, please rethink your position. From Genesis to deep water and glad that dreams come true, Life is offered you free gratis, yours to take up. Maybe you harbor fear of what the Bible might say to you. That is foolish, for the opposite emotion is the true one. It is indeed, as has been said somewhere before, a love letter from God.

Some of my columns have I’m sure been boring, maybe repetitive, and to some wrongheaded and heretical, but are everywhere honest and I hope escaped from the shallows. The last thing a writer wants is to be ignored and of course I meant to be persuasive to what I believe to be good and true. The Lord after all seeks to gift you these very things, truth and His good for your thoughts, will, and deeds….always mindful of Him.

Regular readers will not fail to note a few references to Doctor C.S. Lewis, the single author who has informed me the most. There are others of course but I unashamedly consider him the greatest Christian apologist of three lifetimes. I hope you have a favorite as well. Only may he or she be humble, honest, sincere, and zealous toward their own integrity. Other than him, it occurs to me that I have no friends, family, or acquaintances that have not had a direct influence on my life. If you know me, be assured, you have put your mark on me. Thank you.

And now, “For God did not send His Son into the world (kosmos) to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:17.) How much meaning is contained in the words, ‘through Him’? How high, how wide, how deep is this ‘logismos’? Does it counter the certainty of an exclusion of billions of people; races, generations, babies, toddlers, from heaven’s shore? No? Oh. Special graces? “Of making many books there is no end…the conclusion…fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment…whether good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12:12-14.) God speed. rcox.
