The Knights of Columbus puts on a basketball free throw shooting contest every year throughout Arkansas. Different age groups divide the contest. The Regional tournament was held in Charleston. Several young kids from the Charleston area who won their age group were eligible for the State Free Throw contest to be held in Morrilton, AR on Sunday, March 26th.
Charleston’s Maddix Terry, an 8 year old was representing his age group, which included some 9 year olds. Maddix is the son of Phillip Terry and Gayla White and the grandson of Mark and Carole Terry and Terry and Vanessa White all of Charleston. This was not his 1st year to do the Free Throw contest in Charleston but he never dreamed of going to the state finals. Maddix was so excited about being there. Several challengers in his age group from all over Arkansas were all there. Slowly they were being eliminated one by one as they had to shoot the best out of 25 shots. At the end of the round, there was a 3-way tie for first place in his age group. These three boys had to shoot 25 more free throws to determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Only one could go home the Arkansas State Champion. Charleston’s Maddix Terry came out on top to win the State Champion in his age group. Way to go Maddix! Who knows maybe one day Maddix could be an Arkansas Razorback.
