Virgil Watson

Virgil Watson, 75, of Charleston, took Jesus by the right hand, Melva by the left hand and went home on March 24, 2014.

He was born September 29, 1938 in Charleston to John and Minnie Johnson Watson. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Paris. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva Watson; son, Calvin Watson; his parents and brothers, Paul Watson, Lawrence Watson, and Floyd Watson.

He retired from the Charleston School District and was very active in the Charleston community. He served on the Charleston Fire Department, Charleston EMS, City Council and Franklin County Quorum Court. Virgil and Melva were proud supporters of the Charleston schools. Over the past 35 years they attended almost all of the Charleston Tiger football games, and enjoyed driving the band bus to the away games.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26th, 2014 at Paris Assembly of God Church in Paris with burial to follow in Caulksville Cemetery under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.

Left to cherish his memory is his two daughters, Liz Sidwell and husband Jim of Charleston and Lisa Rust and husband Reid of Greenbrier; two sons, Rick Watson and wife Trish of Vilonia and Danny Watson and wife Patricia of Charleston; two sisters, Ellen Fox of Ratcliff and Ethel Bogle of Harrison; one brother, Leslie Watson of Paris; 15 grandchildren, Ezekiel Sidwell, Jason and Jenni Watson, Jordan and Shawnda Watson, Eva and Ray Collins, John Watson, Shareena and Ernie Ross, Renda and Larry Carter, Earl McAllister, Cassie McAllister, Allie Watson, Alevia Ullrich, Hagan Ullrich, Tasha and Josh Foshee, Devin Rust and Loren Rust and 15 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Watson, Jordan Watson, John Watson, Ezekiel Sidwell, Devin Rust and Josh Foshee.
