Faith-based planning for emergencies

The Faith Base Action: Preparing and Responding to Community Disasters and Crises event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church, 400 N. Waldron Road. The free event will discuss the numerous natural disasters and community crises. The event also will provide information to assist church leaders in preparing and leading congregations during difficult times. Lunch will be provided.

Parenting seminar offered

Westark Church of Christ, 900 N. Waldron Road, will host a free student and parenting seminar titled "Scream Free Parenting" in three sessions April 22. The first combined session will begin at 9:30 a.m. and focus on the role of the community of faith in raising adults. Free child care will be available.

The second session from 1-3 p.m. is for all parents of children of all ages and will focus on learning to pause more and react less. Free child care will be available.

The third session from 6-8 p.m. is for students from fifth grade through college age and will focus on choosing your own adulthood. Adults are encouraged to stay.

Mercy River Boys to perform

The Mercy River Boys, a southern gospel quartet from Jacksonville, will be in concert at 6 p.m. April 22 at Faith Baptist Church, 14511 Old Jenny Lind Loop in the community of Jenny Lind. The quartet has been singing together for more than 16 years.

Church to observe Earth Day

Central Presbyterian Church will celebrate Earth Day with a worship service devoted to preserving our planet and resources at 10:30 a.m. April 22 at the church, 2901 Rogers Ave. A fellowship luncheon will follow.

A Blessing of the Animals also will be held at 3 p.m. April 22 at the church. All pets are welcome to be blessed by Pastor Steve Kurtz. Pets must be leashed or crated. Refreshments will be available.
