Why does PBS want to send camera crews to Franklin County? Our area has been selected to be special participants in The Great American Read! Book lovers, your chance to be heard is here. Franklin County can help pick the nation’s favorite novel in this unique project that will last from now through October. Find out all about it at our Kickin’ Kick-off Party at The Charleston Community Center on June 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Come to this special Kick-Off/Watch Party for FREE. There will be a special performance by local dancers, refreshments, plus find out which book your favorite celebrities like. Also, we’ll tell you how you can vote for your own.
That’s not all! Thanks to a national grant from PBS and the American Library Association, the Charleston Public Library is planning fun events to celebrate the joy of reading. Watch for events all summer long and even into the fall. Look forward to meeting some heroes, villains, and learning a little about what makes a good love story. And find out which classic book everyone in the county will be reading as our One Book, One County project. Plus, PBS will be on site for some of our events to find out about Franklin County’s favorite books. Follow us on the Arkansas River Valley Regional Library System Events page.
