Several cows ran loose Thursday morning in the Ozark area after a wreck involving a cattle trailer.
The truck pulling the trailer overturned around 10 a.m. in the left eastbound lane of Interstate 40 just west of Ozark. Authorities blocked portions of the road for about an hour as they addressed the wreck and the loose cattle. The driver was taken to a Fort Smith hospital, according to Bill Sadler, Arkansas State Police public information officer.
Authorities caught five cows around the eastbound and westbound lanes near the wreck, said Ozark Police Chief Devin Bramlett. All but two cows were accounted for in the incident, Sadler said.
Officials with Arkansas Highway Police, State Police and the Ozark Police Department responded to the incident, Bramlett said. He said local veterinarians assisted them in getting the cows back in the trailer.
