The Charleston Middle School 7th grade science class would like to thank all the individuals from the Charleston Community and the Charleston School District who participated in the collection of eyeglasses and accessories. The goal of the project was to choose a community service project that the 7th grade students could work with that would involve helping others while covering their science unit in “The Conservation of Earth’s Resources”. The students were able to obtain a better understanding of how items can obtain a “new life” through the idea of reusing items instead of creating more solid waste. Students are learning the importance of saving and conserving the valuable resources that are limited to our Earth. The students will be donating all items collected to the Lion’s Club, who in turn, will refurbish them and give to those who would not otherwise have the financial means to purchase a pair of glasses to see. They will be distributed both here in the United States and Internationally. The total items collected were 150 pairs of glasses, 96 cases, 12 pairs of lenses, 2 sets of frames and 31 pairs of sunglasses. Thank you again for all of your help and support.
