FORT SMITH, Ark. (March 4, 2019) – Two nurses at Baptist Health-Fort Smith recently received the nationally recognized DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Kasey Champion, RN, a float pool nurse, was nominated by the wife of a patient. The nomination letter praised Champion for her fast and efficient work as the patient was preparing for discharge. She was also applauded for taking the time to help the patient’s wife with several concerns she had, even after the patient had left the hospital. “She could have just told me to contact the doctor, but she took time out of her busy day and took care of it for me,” the letter stated. “That really means a lot.” Taylor Roberson, RN, from the Labor and Delivery unit, also received the award after being nominated by a bereaved parent. The nomination form stated: “The compassion Taylor showed us and the care she provided was touching and beyond compare.” The goal of the DAISY Foundation’s program is to inspire nurses to provide exemplary care and applaud them for their compassion and skill. Recipients of the DAISY Award are honored with a congratulatory banner to be hung in their unit until the next award is given, a plaque and Daisy pin, and a “Healer’s Touch” sculpture handcrafted in Zimbabwe. Patients and their family members can nominate nurses who they feel go above and beyond to provide safe, quality medical care for the DAISY Award. Nomination letters can be placed in designated DAISY Award drop-off boxes throughout the hospital or mailed to Baptist Health-Fort Smith, Attn: Dina Cox, Nursing Administration, 1001 Towson Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72901.
