The National 4-H BBQ Contest was held as a part of the National 4-H Poultry & Egg Conference in Louisville, Kentucky on Wednesday, November 20 th – Thursday, November 21st. Arkansas 4-H members ages 14 and older qualify to compete at the National 4-H Broiler or Turkey BBQ Contest by placing in the top two at the district contest held in April and May and then winning the State BBQ Contest in June. At the National BBQ Contest, members are judged on their safe food handling practices, appearance and taste of their product, and an oral presentation which details the impact of poultry on Arkansas’s economy, food safety practices, cooking methods, and nutrition. Franklin County 4-H Member Meredith Holman of Ozark, AR was named the national winner for the 2019 Turkey BBQ Contest. Meredith is the 16-year-old daughter of Susan Holman and the late Heath Holman.
