BOYS — Charleston only won one quarter, but it was the one that counted as the Tigers won on a 3-pointer by Matthew Ward in the final seconds.

Charleston outscored Farmington by 18-8 in the fourth quarter to erase an 11-point third-quarter deficit.

Ward scored eight points to open the last quarter for Charleston, which trailed 34-27 after three quarters.

Ward converted a steal into a layup to open the quarter. He added a conventional three-point play, hit a lone free throw and then two free throws that put Charleston up, 35-34, with 5:26 left.

Matt Thomas drove for a bucket for Farmington and Michael Ingram added a free throw for Farmington before Brandon Fenner drilled a 3-pointer from the corner to put Charleston up, 38-37 with 4:04 left.

Andrew Smith added to Charleston’s lead with a bucket, but Thomas counted for Farmington to pull the Cardinals within, 40-39.

Charleston held the ball for more than two minutes before Fenner added a pair of free throws with 45 seconds left. Thomas hit a 3-pointer to tie the game for Farmington with 22 seconds left, but Ward capped his torrid quarter with a 3-pointer from the top of the key with two seconds left for the win.

Fenner led Charleston (2-3) with 18 points. Ward added 15, including 11 in the final quarter.

Thomas led Farmington (1-3) with 22 points.

GIRLS – Senior Morgan Prescott poured in 20 points, all in the final three quarters, to lead Charleston to the win.

Prescott hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter to pace the Lady Tigers (3-1) to a 19-14 lead at the half.

Madeline West added 10 points for Charleston, which took a 28-20 lead into the final quarter.

Lauren Roth scored 11 points for Shiloh Christian.
