Mansfield boys continue surprising postseason run by clinching bid to state tournament

The Mansfield boys basketball team continued its surprising postseason run on Wednesday by qualifying for the 2A state tournament.

Mansfield raced out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and went on to defeat Cotter, 53-35, in the opening round of the 2A-West regional tournament at Magazine. The Tigers, who began postseason play as the No. 5 seed out of 2A-4 before going on to win the district title, also clinched a berth in next week's 2A state tourney.

Codi Chick had 15 points and Jo Jo Bailey added 14 in the win for Mansfield (11-15), which advances to Friday's regional semifinals.

Lavaca 71, Flippin 66: The Golden Arrows also clinched a berth in the 2A state tournament with a win Wednesday night in the 2A-West regionals, halting Flippin's 24-game winning streak. Luke Watson had 22 points while Avery Walker added 14 for Lavaca (14-8).

Bergman 89, Booneville 69: 3A-Region I host school Bergman ended the Bearcats' season with an opening-round win Wednesday. Austin Hill scored 18 and Jacob Herrera added 16 for Booneville (15-7).

Farmington 59, Subiaco Academy 50: The Trojans led at halftime, 32-28, before Farmington rallied in the second half to win Wednesday's 4A-North regional opener in Ozark. Conner King had 18 points and Ivan Martijin 16 for Subiaco (11-12).

Girls Basketball

Bergman 69, Charleston 34: The Lady Tigers' season came to an end Wednesday with a loss at Bergman in the opening round of the 3A regionals. Gracie Koch and Brooke Groen had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Charleston (10-10).

Cotter 64, Magazine 38: Cotter ended the Lady Rattlers' season with a win at Magazine in the 2A-West regional opener Wednesday. Kiara Vasquez scored 11 for Magazine (11-10).
