Muldrow boys and girls teams, Roland boys win area tournament openers

The Muldrow boys basketball team was able to survive the opening round of the Class 4A Area II consolation tournament Thursday at Skiatook.

Muldrow defeated Grove, 54-34, behind a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds from sophomore Trenden Collins. Watie Byrd added 14 points in the win for the Bulldogs (19-4), who continue their memorable season.

Roland 54, Spiro 44: Roland opened play in the 3A Area IV consolation tournament at Henryetta by ending the season of its NOAA Conference rival. Tuvaris Noonan had 17 points and Carson Wiggins 15, including three 3-pointers, for the Rangers (13-9). Braden Riggs had 14 points for the Bulldogs (13-10).

Cedarville 56, Valley Springs 53: The Pirates earned a berth in the 3A state tournament by holding on to win the 3A Region I opener in Bergman. Austin Cluck finished with 19 points while Darryl Kattich added 13 for the Pirates (15-10).

North Little Rock 64, Northside 55: North Little Rock used a late 12-0 run to break a 52-all score to win the 6A-Central game on the Charging Wildcats' court. Jordan Wright had 16 points while Tamaury Releford added 15 points and 13 rebounds for Northside (11-11, 7-7), while Sam Roper scored 12 points.

Elkins 79, Charleston 50: The Tigers' season came to an end with a defeat in the opening round of the 3A Region I tournament in Bergman. Trenton Goodson had 10 points for Charleston (10-9).

Berryville 55, Ozark 34: Down 21-20 at halftime, the Hillbillies were outscored, 19-6, in the third quarter in the  4A-North regional opener in Ozark. Garrett Schaffer had 15 points to lead the Hillbillies (18-7).


Muldrow 48, Vinita 42: The Lady Bulldogs (18-5) trailed entering the fourth quarter of the 4A Area II consolation tournament in Skiatook before rallying for the win. Mariah Jenkins had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Kennedi Wight had eight of her 11 points in the fourth quarter, going a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line in that span.

Harrison 47, Ozark 23: Harrison spoiled the Lady Hillbillies' opening-round game in the 4A-North regional, which was held at Ozark. Briley Burns and Kelsee Barnett had six points apiece for Ozark, which trailed 21-14 at halftime.

Valley Springs 48, Cedarville 38: The Lady Pirates' season ended with a loss in the 3A Region I tournament in Bergman. Katie McBroom had 11 points to lead Cedarville (18-8).
